GLENN FREY HUGGED BERNIE LEADON AFTER THEIR LAST SHOW AND TOLD HIM, “THIS IS NOT THE END.” IT WAS. Bernie Leadon had been gone from the Eagles for nearly 38 years when he returned for the History of the Eagles tour in 2013. For more than two years, he was back beside Glenn Frey and Don Henley, playing the songs from the years when the Eagles were still becoming the Eagles. The tour ended on July 29, 2015, in Bossier City, Louisiana. After that final show, Glenn found Bernie and gave him a big hug. Bernie later remembered Glenn telling him, “It’s been great having you out here. This is not the end.” But they never played together again. Glenn became seriously ill later that year and died in January 2016. For Bernie, that last embrace took on a meaning neither man could have known that night. After decades apart, they had found their way back to the same stage — just in time to say goodbye.
